We historically have meddled to protect our oil interests. The Brits used to meddle to protect the Suez Canal, and, thereby, The Empire.
Is it so surprising that the Arabs would want to take care of their own politics and tribal battles?
Young male Arabs generally have little or no property, no jobs, nothing to lose.
But never forget that the real result of all this chaos is to bring an obscure, obscenely rich Arab international fame/notoriety and power. An "evil one"? Not really, just very, very ambitious.
